People Are Ditching Their Offices to Work Remotely in Airbnbs

Reading Time: 4 minutes

People have flocked abroad in the winter months to embrace the benefits of combining a holiday with working remotely in a beautiful climate and surroundings, with cheaper living costs – instead of working at home. Our recent survey says 42% of people would take up the opportunity, whilst 58% would rather work in their home comfort.

Who knew that the living costs when working abroad could not only be cheaper, whilst surrounded by pools, nearby beaches and beautiful weather during the winter months, but also provide you with all the everyday essentials you would need for working remotely.

Ever since 2008, Airbnb has shown people the way to go for cheaper accommodation by cutting out expensive hotel prices. Independent Airbnb hosts have provided cheaper bookings for people at their rentals which has allowed travellers to benefit from exploring multiple destinations, at affordable costs – often with discounts for those seeking longer stays.

Traditionally, the average household in the UK will holiday once a year, but with Airbnb being a cheaper, viable option, more than one holiday will become accessible for households.

The average cost of living in the UK for a single person is estimated at £650 per month, which doesn’t include rent or mortgage payments. This figure is likely to increase due to rising inflation and gas/electricity prices. People who have chosen to work remotely abroad in Airbnb apartments will have costs half that average figure, including all their bills.

Most travellers using Airbnb are aged between 25-34 years old, and 40% of millennials choose their holiday destinations based upon how socially shareable their holiday will be.

We surveyed 1,000 UK adults, aged between 18 and 50 to find out if they would take the plunge to work remotely abroad in winter. 42% said yes, whilst 58% of people said they’d prefer to work in their home comfort.
